Desert Prodigal

Falling forever, it seems like nothing has changed
A runaway in the desert, following streams that led me astray
Hours turn to years of loneliness under a blinding sun
And all I can say for my bitterness is that I still feel

Thirsty and angered at all that life has repaid
Hatred and lust toward my only guiding star
As the sand takes my vision away
And hides my tears deep in the morrow of pain

Pleasure will scorch me with flames that bear loneliness
Twisted as life has become, those flames have become my smile
As many a torment has caressed my cheek
And it is all that I understand

Spun in the threads of a storm for so long
I can’t remember the last face to greet me
Dry desert trails this prodigal has traced
To simply find a friend

Fear for the angels who come to take my broken spirit away
Nothing more to mourn for, and nothing left of me
As phantoms embrace my lost and dying heart
To lead me once more to grace

In that final, whispered dream of a thought
As my eyes clear away the debris of a thousand wars
The stream reappears from the flow of my heart
And the burden lay before me in the form of rain

Blood mixed with water far too long held back
An oasis springs forth in the echoes of release
As chains of emotion bound by Hell’s angry eyes
Fall from tattered wings… and scream

The journey falls upward in a furious storm
As the vultures reveal the decay
Had not I fallen, I’d never have lived
Beauty was the desert in my fallen eyes
Blinded and opened by pain… to set me free…

In The Fields

I have slowly found my faith in the sands that once buried the saint of fire
For the insects have betrayed themselves in the wealth of carrion
I am no more their slave… not for nothing.
I will fear nothing; clarity becomes the storm that will free my soul
And the sun will forget my face
As twilight becomes the robe of my desire

Silence beckons the steel chaos within, and I feel the chains
My voice is a thunder
Which for far too long has remained in the depths
And I will pour from this lonely shadow as a gale
May the winds find the echo of a lost spirit who has found her wings
And lay the road once more that I trod so long ago

The lady of winter shall shed her tears,
As summer’s flower shall dream its dreams upon the night
For the seas of forever shall not be forgotten by my eyes
They behold the constant flow of my passage throughout,
Where burden shall rescind to the sky
In the brevity that is my sullen wake

My soul shall invoke the power of these tears
For I have shed them in the dew and in the tempest which brought the pain
The hourglass has brought screams of betrayal and sighs of delight
Wherewith I have pounded my fists upon the ash
But upon this fire, I shall awaken my fate,
And burn in the fields of a defiant strength

A Dream of Sleep

The stars hide far away
In the darkness of my mind
As the flames grow dim inside
Seeking solitary warmth
Yet finding emptiness and cold
Within tired unblinking orbs

Sleep has forgotten me
Somewhere in the misery
Pacing anxiety in service to the night
Lost in half-dreams and silence
Desperate, slowly dying
Another victim of the mirror
Another horror stalks the fear I hide

Passing through etherium
Breathing deep then not at all
A wish for peaceful fantasy
Drowned by struggling madness
Gasping for life
Leaving claw marks on the corridors within

Oh labyrinth, swallow me
Take me to thy netherworld
Oblivious to the morning light
Rest has fled so far away
Chasing fireflies
In some long-forgotten realm
In some distant palace where my soul resides

Wandering through these halls
Anticipating death to call
Grasp the blade to close my eyes…
Dreaming in a fog
Past the break, I’ve come this far
Waking daylight comes again

Hate Me

Blackened shards of hatred pierce my soul, as you tear apart my life.
Why can’t you love me; why am I so disgusting to you?
The tears of rage can flood away my sight, but they cannot take away my pain,
For I am alone, in a crowded room filled with unknown faces that I cannot trust.
Familiarity of the past is now become as strange to me as alien eyes,
Kissing lies, fairytales of understanding, vicious obliterations that rip apart my spirit wings,
You will all fall at the foot of revelation, blinded eyes forced apart,
“SEE ME AS I AM!!!”

I am the same as I was, only I have faced my fear, I have found who I am,
But who I am is a threat to your pitiful outlook.
The rose has it’s thorns, but it is still a rose, as beautiful as ever,
But you judge the rose by its thorns,
You judge me, and you hate me, and I care not.

My tears have no place in your eyes, for you refuse to see them.
You refuse to see my pain, how it cuts me till it bleeds.
I drown in heavy floods of rage, bury myself in a blanket of death.
I no longer know you; you have turned your back, and I weep bitterly,
Because I remember the times of my decieved youth,
When the sun shone brightly on blinded eyes;
But now, I see the crystal truth, I become who I truly was meant to be,
And you hate me for it.

The art of my soul sings great melodies of beautiful tears,
But the raven is unacceptable, for she paints in black.
The song is melancholy, but it is no less beautiful than the sun-laced sky.
I will see you in the days of your lonliness, when you have forgotten me;
But my face will glow with truth, for I accepted what you could not…

Desert’s Child

Please take me away
To the sands of my birth
The dream of my incarnation
Where first I breathed the morning
And exhaled the dusk
May the land hear my call
For I am alone again

Pain seeks its treasure in buried temples
Ancient, yet not forgotten
Not by me
For I was awakened in a bed of rage
Bringing storms across distant horizons
My yesterdays of wrath
Which fill my tomorrows once more

Let the sands caress my face
And the sweat kiss my eyes
For my vision burns of you, my home
Humanity will take its leave of me
For what I never was cannot remain
Only the spirit which was born of this fire
And the body which tempts not the fortunes of bliss

The barren sun weeps for its lost child
In a death-trance which mourning could not overtake
I can hear the moans which erupt from both above and below
It surrounds me with a desire which could never be quenched
For I belong with the jackals and the asps
I am the heart which rises in its grave
A traveller carried home by the wind

I will reach my horizon
I will see the visions in my dreams
Forever could not hold back this longing
For it is older than the seas
And furious in its need
The inhuman force resonating in my pulse
I will return, a child of the sand and a god of the lonely flame…

A Heart’s Goodbye

Dancing_Through_Grief_by_Arielle_Carroll

So many places
And yet my heart wanders
So many times
And yet my soul continues its voyage
A ship tossed upon the waves
A bird, fighting against the wind
With no refuge,
No place to rest its wearied wings
And still the spirit wanders on
Sails blazing against the current
Wishes torn from me
Dreams dying in the dust

But could that clay be reborn again
To form a new creature?
Could that dream rise again
As the great one, to heaven
From the defeating flames of yesterday?

As death brings life
And life brings death
And the days turn to months
And months to years
And as I numb with each stroke of time
I wonder in simple amazement
At those tiny droplets of resilience
Falling from my eyes in great floods
And tiny mists
As the minutes pass on
And the hour comes nigh
To say my goodbyes

Is it any wonder
Any great prospect for philosophers
To wrap their great minds around human nature
And see the reflection of their own souls
Old as the ages, and young as a child’s delight?

And the seconds pass on
Closer to my farewell
As I gather my forces
To conquer a new life
A new dream
And ride my chariot of flame to a new tomorrow
Rich with wonder and thick with hello’s
Searching ever for more
But free to find myself in all of these things
Free to love
Free to breathe
Free to smile at whatever brings joy

So fear not these goodbyes
For they are a necessity in the many tomorrows
Which shall embrace my heart
As I embrace the truth
In visions that captivate this heart
Which grows wiser with the years
And these times of suffering
For once the goodbyes are done
And the pain fades into memory
What remains is mine to build
As I sit upon the throne of the future
Fashioning my own crown, without remorse…

Burden

Years succumb to the footfalls of strangers
Swearing allegiance to an unknown crown
Questions bearing no aid nor answer resonate from beyond
In waters which brought forth dreams
And never faltered for lack of reason

Fury fell fast upon a breast forged in pain
As princes crumbled beneath the mire
Danced as never before, then died
Broken and weary from a fear which knew them not
Fully denied fate of half-empty eyes which never dared to see

With fear, I embrace the steps of the damned
Chiseled in abhorrence
Kissed with passion
And yet my burdened feet bleed with each wish
Wanting for that which words cannot form

Seas of madness dwell in this heart of stone
Waiting for you to crush it.
Let it weep
For in those tears I will find my release
And kiss the humble hand which still holds the key

Ask not for hidden treasures, readily attained
For I have given myself away
As laughter drowned in its own iniquity.
Madness held within crystalline tears
Fall upon your pure brow, to quickly wipe away…
From wandering eyes
